Distillation Systems
MOJJ are experts in the complete range of Chemical Distillation Plant and Distillation Systems. Distillation is the separation of liquid
mixtures depending on the difference in the volatility of the components.
Greater the difference in volatilities, easier is the separation. Vapour
flows up the column and liquid counter-currently down the column. The vapour
and liquid are brought into contact on trays (sieve, bubble cap, etc) or
packing (random, structured, etc). Part of the condensate from the condenser
is returned to the top of the column to provide liquid flow above the feed
point (reflux), and part of the liquid from the base of the column is
vaporised in the re-boiler and returned to provide the vapour flow.
Distillation can be classified into various categories depending upon the
specific type of separation.
Processing Mode
Batch Distillation is when all the feed
is put into the distillation column at once. The operation is allowed to
continue until the desired task is achieved.
Continuous Distillation has continuous feed and product streams. They are
capable of handling high throughputs and are the most common in industry.
Nature of Feed / Product
- Binary Distillation is the separation of only two chemicals.
- Multicomponent Distillation is the separation of a mixture of
chemicals.
- Multiproduct Distillation has more than two product streams.
Addition of Third Component
- Azeotropic Distillation uses an entrainer or agent that forms a
minimum / maximum boiling azeotrope with some of the feed components and
gets separated.
- Extractive Distillation uses a extracting agent (Non Volatile) and
extract one or more of the component and takes to column bottom for
further purification.
- Reactive Distillation uses a reaction in the distillation equipment
to help the separation by changing the composition. The reaction may or
may not use a catalyst.

Extraction Systems
MOJJ designs and supplies Extraction Systems, Solvent Extraction Systems and Solvent Extraction Plant. Liquid Liquid Extraction System is the separation of the components of a liquid mixture by treatment with a solvent in which one or more of the desired components are preferentially soluble. In this
operation, it is essential that the liquid-mixture feed and solvent are at
least partially if not completely immiscible.
Extraction involves three stages
- Bringing the feed mixture and the solvent into intimate contact
- Separation of the resulting two phases
- Removal and recovery of the solvent from each phase
The solvent rich phase which also contains most of the solute is called the
Extract and the solvent lean phase is called the Raffinate.
Extraction is in many ways complementary to distillation and is preferable
in the following cases
- Where distillation would require excessive amounts of energy when the
difference in volatilities is very small
- When heating must be avoided in case of heat sensitive materials
MOJJ Extraction Systems are either a Packed Column or a
Rotating Disc Contactor depending on the specific requirement.
Adsorption Systems
Adsorption System is a process that occurs when a gas or liquid
solute accumulates on the surface of a solid or a liquid (adsorbent),
forming a film of molecules or atoms.
Molecular sieves (which are used as adsorbents) have
lattice structures composed of tetrahedral of silica and alumina arranged in
various ways. The net effect is the formation of a cage like structure with
windows which admit only molecules less than a certain size. These Molecular
Sieves provide a very high Yield and Purity for Solvent Dehydration Systems.
MOJJ Adsorption systems offer both Gas Phase and Liquid Phase
Adsorption technologies.
